“Sumatrakontor” by Erick van Egeraat


Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat has completed a mixed-use block named SumatraKontor in Hafencity, a development area of the city of Hamburg, Germany. The ten-storey building is made of clad stone, giving a red color of brick to the building to match the neighboring houses. The styled facade that parts like a pair of curtains holds a ground-floor lobby extending up through the full height of the building.

“Olly and Molly”, by Foundry at Mind Digital


Smell is the most under-used sense of the human body. Foundry, a small research team at Mint Digital, created a small device to stimulate the entire spectrum of our human powers during the day. Olly is a small robot that diffuses a fragrance of your choice when you receive emails, re-tweets, etc. As a modular system, Olly will have its own website from which one can customize the way the smelly robot responds to web stimuli.

And then, to complete the experience with taste, Foundry released Molly, a little brother of Olly, that graduates from scent to candy, dispensing one’s chosen sweets upon receipt of virtual notifications.

2011 Gymnastics X Break Dance Video


Wake-up video to give you what you need today! Japanese superstar Kōhei Uchimura at the 2011 World gymnastics championships in Tokyo, where he won 2 gold medals, preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games. In 2008, he won two silver medals and he is a nine-time World medalist. His gymnastics skills were described by the International Gymnast Magazine as a “combination of tremendous difficulty, supreme consistency and extraordinary elegance of performance“. Swiss architects Gramazio & Kohler and Raffaello D’Andrea assemble a six metre-high tower from polystyrene bricks called “Flight Assembled Architecture”. It is the first installation to be built with flying machines.

“5D / Soul Flyers Camp”, Teaser by Fly Your Body


Fly Your Body is a wingsuit flying school based in France. They organise training camps to put flyers together, to share experiences. This teaser was made after the first camp in 2011, for the 5D Soul Flyers camp II in 2012.To participate, one will need to have already done 150 skydiving jumps.

Guillaume Nery’s Deans Blue Hole Base Jumping Video


Freediver World champion Guillaume Nery has a soft spot for aerial performances of basejumping and wingsuitflying. To manifest his feelings, he made an artistic project, a video editing of a base-jump while free-diving at Dean’s Blue Hole, the deepest blue hole in the world.

“Exploding Food Photography” by Alan Sailer


American artist Alan Sailer shots of food or other object at high speeds are stunning. A PVC or copper cannon launches pellets and marbles at his subjects creating the explosions. Working in his garage, he uses a homebuilt air-gap flash and guided spark flash instead of special cameras. All his work is based on 1974 article from Scientific American and information found online.

“Apocalypse Later, Surf Now” Video


A very unusual surf video. Imagination can do just as well as performance for the eye of the audience. Send me more like this one :-)
The filming is done with a GoPro surf camera.The effects were done in Maya, motion tracking in Mocha, and compositing in After Effects.

American developer Scott Garner created “Still Life“, a virtual gallery responding to real-world activity.

Vases, fruits and ordinary objects of a still life painting tumble around as users rotate the wooden frame. The project was funded by US-based design agency Süperfad.

The panel is only visible from the inside and has got a virtual blind feature. It’s a very nice feature for casual information available at hand. The technology will be available from next month.
